for my context project i decided to show passage of time through the deconstruction of my old skateboards. i chose to use skateboards because i felt instantly that it attacked all aspects of the prompt.

assignment 4: material dualism
for my material dualism project i used ice and skateboard trucks. for the first one i froze in the trucks so the wheels would still be useable and for the second one i froze the trucks completely. i used the same mold for both so the shape would be the same but the pieces function differently. the one with the exposed trucks is completely useless for movement because the ice is too thin to stand on but on the thick ice block you could actually ride on because it slides as the ice melts under the block.

Assignment 3: framework/structure (part 1)
this is the structure for my next project. i want to make a cave with hollow walls so i can screw in shelves and put some homemade instruments and eventually use it in a performance. i want to also maybe run instrument mics in through the walls to be able to make sounds using the actual walls.
i have to slightly modify the framework so making an organic form is a easier.
materials: pvc piping

Assignment 2: Making a box for an object (wood joinery)
This is the box I made for my little shaker and my drumsticks.
Process: After measuring the items i decided to make a regular rectangular box joined using miter joints. i then measured my wood and drew my plans. after cutting all my pieces i compared my items to the box and decided to make the box a bit shorted in length so the objects could have a tighter fit after the velvet was applied. then i joined it using the epoxy and wood glue. after it was dry i sanded it to make it as smooth as i could. after sanding i painted it using some high gloss paint. after painting i cut some pieces of cardboard that would be a bit smaller than the walls of the box so i could wrap it in velvet and glue it to the inside of my box. i was looking at at old fender jazz master basses and i saw one with a similar lining on the case and so i decided to make my box with a similar lining. after glueing in the upholstery i put on all the hardware and the sticker and called it finished
Materials: 1/2 inch ply wood, wood glue, epoxy, high-gloss enamel paint cardboard crushed velvet, brass hardware.
